Tight Lower Bounds for Unequal Division
نویسنده
چکیده
Alice and Bob want to cut a cake and have their own opinions of what values various pieces have. In contrast to the usual problems of fair division, they want to cut it unfairly. More precisely, they want to cut it in ratio (a, b). (We can assume gcd(a,b)=1.) Let f(a, b) be the number of cuts this will take (assuming both act in their own self interest). It is known that f(a, b) ≤ dlg(a + b)e [1]. We show that 1. for all a,b, f(a, b) ≥ lg(lg(a + b)) 2. for an infinite number of (a,b), f(a, b) ≤ 1 + lg(lg(a + b)).

Upper and lower bounds of symmetric division deg index
Symmetric Division Deg index is one of the 148 discrete Adriatic indices that showed good predictive properties on the testing sets provided by International Academy of Mathematical Chemistry. Symmetric Division Deg index is defined by $$ SDD(G) = sumE left( frac{min{d_u,d_v}}{max{d_u,d_v}} + frac{max{d_u,d_v}}{min{d_u,d_v}} right), $$ where $d_i$ is the degree of vertex $i$ in graph $G$. In th...
متن کاملSome remarks on the arithmetic-geometric index
Using an identity for effective resistances, we find a relationship between the arithmetic-geometric index and the global ciclicity index. Also, with the help of majorization, we find tight upper and lower bounds for the arithmetic-geometric index.
متن کاملOn discriminativity of Zagreb indices
Zagreb indices belong to better known and better researched topological indices. We investigate here their ability to discriminate among benzenoid graphs and arrive at some quite unexpected conclusions. Along the way we establish tight (and sometimes sharp) lower and upper bounds on various classes of benzenoids.
متن کاملMultilevel Codes and Multistage Decoding for Unequal Error Protection
| In this paper, multilevel coded modulation with multistage decoding and unequal error protection is discussed. Three types of unconventional partitionings for 8-PSK and 16(64)-QAM constellations with UEP capabilities are analyzed. Based on the tight upper/approximated bounds on bit error probability, it is shown that more degrees of freedom in the construction of multilevel coding and multist...
متن کاملOn Infinitely Precise Rounding for Division, Square Root, Reciprocal and Square Root Reciprocal
Quotients, reciprocals, square roots and square root reciprocals all have the property that infinitely precise p-bit rounded results for p-bit input operands can be obtained from approximate results of bounded accuracy. We investigate lower bounds on the number of bits of an approximation accurate to a unit in the last place sufficient to guarantee that correct round and sticky bits can be dete...
